Enters water to perform regular maintenance and repairs on pipes, vessels, and equipment.

Secures dredge, pipeline, tug, and service vehicle in an approved safe manner at the end of day.

Keeps Captain informed of all deficiencies and requirements to safely and efficiently perform the dredging operation.

Makes sure that fuel and lubricant levels are appropriate prior to dredge operation.

Trains Deckhands on dredge operations and mechanical repairs.

Directs the Deckhand daily duties including the appointment of lookout during dredging operation.

Maintains a daily log of operation including service records, fuel log, and operation chart recordings.

Dredges and cleans drainage pipes including diving into pipes to clean out sand and debris.

Performs mechanical and cosmetic maintenance of the equipment, job site, and vessels.

Repairs, maintains, and replaces parts, pumps, pipelines, floats, and pontoons.

Cleans out cutter, strings together cables, places pins in spuds.

Prepares, positions, and maintains dredge and dredge cables for towing.

Checks and prepares tugboat for operation at dock.

Reviews and complies with the dredge manufacture’s operator manual recommendations.

Communicates with Dredge Captain, and Dredge Deckhands to coordinate dredge movements.

Operates and maintains the dredge and support equipment in a safe working manner at all times.

Moves and assembles dredging equipment in the preparation for dredging operation.

Supervision may be exercised over a small group of skilled personnel. Work involves considerable exposure to the natural elements and includes manual work.

Under supervision of the Dredge Caption, responsibilities include the preparation, repair, and maintenance of all dredge equipment and vessels.
